Frequently Asked Questions
A few questions we hear often, and what to know about how we craft, choose, and stand behind our pieces.
ORDERS & SHIPPING:
Why are most Marrow pieces made to order?
Rather than mass-producing, most Marrow pieces are created once they’re chosen — in your exact size and selected gold color. This slower, more intentional process allows us to craft thoughtfully and reduce excess. Your piece begins the moment you decide it’s yours.
Need it now? Explore a collection of ready-to-ship fine jewelry — no waiting required.
What is your exchange/return policy?
- Unless otherwise noted, unworn line item jewelry and ready-to-ship one of a kind jewelry may be returned within 10 days of receiving your order.
- Returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee or 100% store credit, along with a $40 insured shipping fee.
- Extended holiday returns: purchases received in December qualify for an extended return window of 30 days.
- Marrow does not issue refunds, store credit, or exchanges for custom or engraved jewelry.
To initiate a return, please email info@marrowfine.com. Please note that return shipping costs are the client’s responsibility, although Marrow can facilitate providing an insured label. Store credit or refund will be issued once the piece is returned to Marrow and inspected.
When will I receive my order?
Most of our jewelry is made-to-order meaning that once your order is placed, we will begin production on your piece (so it's brand new!).
We offer complimentary 2-day shipping (from the date of completion) on all orders and overnight shipping on orders over $5k
- For ready to ship pieces, please allow 1-2 business days for processing, in addition to shipping time. You can shop our ready to ship one-of-a-kind pieces here.
- For made to order pieces, lead time is typically 3-4 weeks, unless otherwise noted (rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets).
- For engagement and custom designs, lead time is 8-10 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design.
There may be processing and shipping delays during peak and holiday seasons.
Do I need to sign for my order?
Yes. All orders require a signature at the time of delivery to ensure your package arrives safely and securely.
If you’re unavailable during the first delivery attempt, the carrier will make a second attempt. After two unsuccessful attempts, the package will be returned to us. Please note that reshipping fees will apply.
To help avoid delays, our team will contact you by text or email before your order ships to confirm that the provided shipping address can accommodate a signature-required delivery.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! We offer international shipping so you can shop Marrow jewelry from anywhere in the world. Please note that each country has its own taxes and duties, which are the responsibility of the client.
International orders may take a few extra days to arrive due to customs processing.
Can I rush my order?
Need your piece by a specific date? Email us and we’ll do our very best to accommodate your timeline. While we can’t guarantee rush availability on every design, our team will work with you to explore what’s possible.
Please note that rush fees may apply depending on the piece and timeframe requested. We’re always happy to help make special moments happen whenever we can.
Can I pick up my jewelry if I live near a showroom?
Yes. We’re happy to offer showroom pickup for clients local to our San Diego and Newport Beach locations.
You can select the showroom pickup option at checkout or email us at info@marrowfine.com to schedule your pickup.
Can I use my discount code on all jewelry?
Discount codes and promotional offers cannot be applied to sale items, either in-store or online. Only one discount code may be used per purchase.
Please note that discounts are not valid on select pieces, including engagement rings, one-of-a-kind pieces, tennis styles, men's bands, Always Enamel Band, Colson Bands, and custom creations.

What if I don’t know my ring size?
Not to worry! If you include a note with checkout, we'll send you a ring sizer before we get your jewelry into production.
If you'd like to confirm your size before ordering, we recommend either popping into a local jeweler to get sized, ordering a ring sizing tool on our site, or downloading our printable ring sizer.
Can you resize my ring after I receive it?
Marrow offers one complimentary resize (includes shipping costs - domestic only) per piece within 90 days of receipt. Anything purchased on sale or during promotions is not eligible for a complimentary resize, unless otherwise noted.
Certain designs are non-resizable and will be specified on individual product pages.
Resizing your Marrow piece at a local jeweler voids the Marrow warranty.
Do your pieces have a warranty?
Marrow guarantees against all defects of materials and craftsmanship of our jewelry, but it does not cover normal wear and tear, neglect, or accidental damage.
We recommend having your jewelry inspected every year to keep it in good condition.
Please be mindful that it is important to add fine jewelry to an insurance policy, this will protect against loss, damage or theft of jewelry.
Learn more about proper gemstone care under the 'Products & Materials' section below.
Full assessment for Craftsmanship Warranties must be completed by Marrow Fine - If you have any questions please contact info@marrowfine.com.
Do you provide repairs?
Yes! Fine jewelry naturally experiences wear over time, and we’re always here to help with servicing when needed.
Please email us to begin the repair process, and our team will guide you through the next steps. Kindly note that we are only able to service Marrow pieces and do not offer repairs for non-Marrow items.
Do you provide appraisals?
For pieces under $5,000, Marrow offers appraisals for a small additional fee through a local, trusted 3rd party appraiser. Typically, insurance providers will allow for a detailed receipt in order to add the piece to your policy. Please email us and we'd be happy to provide one for you!
For pieces over $5,000, appraisals are complimentary and included with every order.
Are your one-of-a-kind pieces restockable?
Our one-of-a-kind pieces are truly just that — one of one. Once a piece has sold, it is no longer available.
From time to time, we may create something similar in spirit, but no two designs are ever exactly alike. If you fall in love with something special, we recommend making it yours before it’s gone.
Do you offer engraving on jewelry?
Yes — we’re happy to offer engraving for an additional fee of $100, making your piece even more personal and meaningful.
Please note that some narrower bands may not be suitable for engraving due to space limitations. If you’re unsure whether your piece qualifies, reach out to us and we’ll gladly confirm and help guide you through the process.
Can I customize your jewelry?
Yes! We’re happy to offer customization options on select pieces. Whether you’re looking to modify an existing design, change a stone, upgrade the metal, or create something more personal, our team would be honored to help bring your vision to life.
Book an appointment with us, and we’ll gladly guide you through what’s possible.
Can you redesign or reset my heirloom jewelry?
Yes — in fact, an heirloom rework is exactly how Marrow was born!
We would be honored to help you reimagine your piece, whether that means resetting a family stone into a new setting or transforming an existing design into something that feels more like you. Our team will carefully evaluate your jewelry to ensure it’s suitable for resetting and thoughtfully guide you through design options that preserve its history while giving it new life.
To begin, we recommend booking a consultation — in person or virtually — so we can learn more about your piece and your vision. There’s nothing we love more than helping meaningful jewelry continue its story.
I’d like to create a custom piece. Can you help bring my vision to life?
Absolutely — we would love to. Whether you have a fully formed idea or just a spark of inspiration, our team will work closely with you to design something uniquely yours. From initial consultation to stone sourcing and final production, we’ll guide you through each step with care and intention.
To get started, book a consultation with us — in person or virtually — and we’ll begin bringing your vision to life.
PRODUCTS & MATERIALS:
Is your jewelry meant for everyday wear?
Our jewelry is made to be worn, loved, and truly lived in. Each piece is cast, set, and polished by skilled jewelers with daily wear in mind — designed for stacking, layering, and evolving with you. While most pieces are designed for daily wear, certain gemstones, such as opal, emerald, moonstone, and pearls, are naturally more delicate and benefit from thoughtful handling to preserve their beauty over time.
What metals do you use?
Our fine jewelry is crafted primarily in solid gold — available in yellow, white, and rose — as well as Platinum. Whenever possible, we prioritize the use of recycled materials.
We offer 14k gold across the majority of our collection, with select 10k options available in our Men’s Band Collection and 18k available upon request.
At a time when gold is more valuable than ever, we believe in using it thoughtfully: never plated, never hollow — always solid.
If you’re interested in a metal upgrade or custom request, we’re happy to help. Simply reach out to our team to learn more.
How do I care for my gold jewelry?
Gold is beautiful but not indestructible. As a naturally soft and malleable metal, it will develop scratches and wear over time—that’s part of its character. To keep your pieces looking their best, remove them before heavy activity, store them separately to avoid scratching, and clean them gently with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush.
If your piece needs a refresh, we offer polishing services for a fee—reach out to us for details.
Where do your gemstones and diamonds come from?
We personally hand-source our gemstones and diamonds through a small group of trusted partners around the world who share our standards for ethics and responsible practices.
Many of our stones are individually selected for their color, character, and one-of-a-kind beauty — sourced everywhere from Sri Lanka to Muzo to Montana. We’re always drawn to gemstones with personality, which means no two are ever exactly alike.
We take the same thoughtful approach with our diamonds, choosing stones that meet our quality standards while aligning with our commitment to ethical sourcing.
Are your natural diamonds conflict free?
Thanks to the Kimberley Process and efforts enacted by the United Nations, the modern diamond industry strives to eliminate conflict diamonds and practice ethical procurement. Predating modern conflicts, antique diamonds offer a conflict free solution while reducing the environmental impact.
Do you work with lab grown diamonds?
We do—Our lab-created diamonds are grown using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), where carbon-rich gas layers onto a tiny diamond seed, creating a crystal with exceptional clarity and minimal inclusions. It’s a precise, energy-efficient process that results in stunning, high-quality diamonds.
What are lab grown diamonds & how do they compare to natural diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds created in a controlled lab environment rather than formed naturally within the earth. They have the same chemical composition, physical properties, and brilliance as natural diamonds.
The primary difference lies in origin. Natural diamonds are formed over billions of years beneath the earth’s surface, making each one a rare product of time and nature. Lab-grown diamonds are created using advanced technology that replicates this process in a much shorter timeframe.
Both options offer exceptional beauty and durability. Choosing between them often comes down to personal preference — whether you’re drawn to the rarity and natural history of an earth-formed diamond or the innovation behind a lab-grown stone. Our team is always happy to help you explore which option feels right for you.
What’s the difference between modern and antique diamonds?
Modern diamonds are typically cut for maximum brilliance and symmetry, offering a crisp, bright sparkle. Antique diamonds — such as Old Mine or Old European cuts — were cut by hand, often featuring softer facets, warmer tones, and a romantic, candlelit glow.
It really comes down to personality: modern cuts feel clean and refined, while antique stones carry a sense of history and old-world charm. We love both for different reasons.
How do I care for my gemstone jewelry?
DIAMOND & SAPPHIRE
These gemstones are known for their hardness, but still should be taken off when doing anything active or using chemicals. To maintain the gem’s natural sparkle, you can give the jewelry an ultrasonic bath and a good steam. If you don’t have access to an ultrasonic or steamer, don’t worry—using warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush to scrub the jewels works great!
OPAL, TOURMALINE, TOPAZ, MOONSTONE, EMERALD, SUNSTONE & ONYX
While we love these gemstones, they are a bit more delicate! Be sure to take off jewelry with these gems before cleaning with any chemicals, doing physical activities, or swimming. You can clean these gems with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, but avoid vigorous scrubbing and ultrasonic cleaners.
PEARLS
These beauties require the most care. They should be the last piece of jewelry put on when getting ready and the first to be taken off at the end of the day. Avoid using hair spray or perfume when wearing pearls. You can clean them with warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
How do I care for my enamel jewelry?
Enamel is super delicate and should be treated with care. Enamel may fade or chip over time with storage in direct sunlight, application of heat and aggressive wear (especially with lighter enamel colors).
We recommend cleaning your enamel jewelry with only warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Please avoid any at-home ultrasonics and harsh chemicals, which includes skin care products, cosmetics, dyes, colored shampoos & conditioners, cleaning products, and chlorine.
If you need to have your piece re-enameled, a fee of $120 + shipping will apply.
What else should I know about jewelry care?
Marrow creates jewelry with the intention of being worn, but precious metals and gemstones need proper care. We recommend removing your jewelry before doing any strenuous activities. Gold is a softer metal, so be mindful when lifting heavy items or wearing your jewelry when interacting with chemicals.
We recommend having your jewelry inspected annually, as normal wear and tear (such as worn down prongs or misshapen shanks) can affect the integrity of the design.
